At Elbers, we have a long history of providing full-service landscaping in Western New York. Through this experience, we understand the plants that are best suited for our area. We also stay on top of the latest techniques and use state-of-the-art equipment to provide the highest quality services at affordable prices for both residential and commercial customers.
How We Started
Our company was started by Henry H. Elbers – a local horticulturist who served as superintendent of the old Parade Grounds (now known as Martin Luther King Park) and director of the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. In 1919, with nearly three decades of experience under his belt, he opened Elbers Landscape Service. A year later, he moved the business to Main Street in North Buffalo, which remains our home today. The Elbers family operated the business for a total of 61 years.
Current Ownership
In 1980, the company was purchased by Jim E. Hornung, Sr., a long-time Elbers employee, and his wife, Elizabeth. Continuing the tradition as a family-run business, Elbers today is managed by the Hornungs along with their son, Jim Hornung, Jr.
In 2003, father and son teamed up to create Great Lakes Athletic Fields, which specializes in natural grass and artificial turf surfaces athletic departments, building and grounds managers, architects, and construction companies.
